We missed you guys. It’s been a while.

We hope you all have taken the gratitude challenge and remembered to remain positive every day.

That’s the goal here: to help you learn about how to maintain a positive mindset in today’s world. We try to become optimistic in our everyday lives and it’s not as hard as you might think.

With that being said though, we are also realists.

We know there is negativity out there. To deny it is to live in a fantasy land.

Last time, we learned about the Nocebo Effect. The Nocedo Effect results in negative living because you have a negative mindset. For example, it’s having a bad day because you believed you would have a bad day to begin the day. Maybe before you even started the day…that’s what has got to change.

So, what do you do with the negativity you may encounter? How can you deal with what life throws at you sometimes?

Here are some examples of what I mean on how you can take control of the negativity and start on a positive track.

Just ignore it. We are social beings. We were created to be social and enjoy the fellowship with others. There are always people that abuse this though. I know quite a few people who “don’t like people” because many of them are negative. When someone is negative, if you just ignore them and don’t feed into it, often it will go away.

Play it off. If there is ever a time when you just can’t ignore negativity, you can always take the high road. Usually negative people are simply looking for attention and this approach kind of gives them that but also taking the wind out of their sails. An example would be if someone was doubting your ability to do something, you could just respond with something like, “yeah, you’re probably right, but I want to find out.” Again, this will give them that attention, just not in the way they were thinking.

Organize and prioritize. For many, the number one negativity in their life is stress. Especially here in America, there are just too many deadlines and quotas in the world of work. There just isn’t enough time in the day to meet these expectations. This is where people can become stressed because they feel they are overwhelmed with an abundance of tasks to do. Try and write down everything you need to get done for the day. This will let you be in control and visualize what you need to do.

Next, a good thing to do would be to prioritize each task. Rank them from most important to least important. This will allow you to get done what needs to get done. Some even write timeframes alongside each task so they can see how long it will take each one to do.

Meditate. Sometimes we just need a quiet place. This is usually for the more extreme cases such as a business didn’t pan out as you had hoped o maybe even the death of a loved one. There is always time for a grievance period that we all go through. Going to pray or meditate away from everyone will help us reflect on maybe how to solve a problem or cope with a loss. There’s a time to mourn and a time to dance (Ecclesiastes 3:4).

Stay positive. In every scenario, there will be a positive outlook on it. You just have to find it. Sometimes we even need the help of others to aid us on our journey. If you’re stuck in a negative rut, having others around could be like a shot of adrenaline coursing through your veins. A light shines brighter when surrounded by other lights. Start surrounding yourself with others today!

There you have it.

There may be loads more but this is a good starter list. What are some other ways you can think of to deal with negativity in your life?

If you need help, we’re always here too. Remember though, it takes you to think positively.

Make that change right now!
